PRESIDENT BATTULGA RECEIVES AMBASSADOR STEFAN DUPPEL
President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga received today Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany Stefan Duppel.
Beginning the meeting, the Ambassador underlined Germany and Mongolia have friendly relations from ancient times, many Mongolians received education in Germany since 100 years ago and that the People’s Republic of Mongolia and the German Democratic Republic [formerly] had been interacting in expansive scope. He also noted Mongolia and Germany share values of democracy and human rights and freedom.
The President said, “Although the long-standing friendship remains between the two sides, there is almost no interaction if you look at the economic sector. The only discussion in economy is loans and financial assistance. I have been thinking about the ways to widen Mongolia’s economic ties with the European Union and Germany.”
President Battulga mentioned that he initiated a satellite city project, which was designed by German specialists, when he was the Minister for Construction and Urban Development. He recalled mentioning about the project during the National Forum of Reduction of Air Pollution held last Monday. “Germany is one of the leading countries in urban development. It is important for us to carry on such cooperation”, he said.
Ambassador Duppel extended gratitude for the support and auspices of every head of state of Mongolia for the joint archeological explorations around Kharkhorin. The Ambassador stressed that the fact that the German-Mongolian Institute of Technology in Nalaikh is training highly specialized engineers in their home country and welcoming their first graduates is an important form of economic relations. Reportedly, most of the Mongolians who have taken parts in the World Skills Competitions have received training in Germany.
