In accordance with a decree of President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga, a citizen of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Ko Beon Sok was awarded the Polar Star Order of Mongolia.
Deputy Chief of Staff of the President of Mongolia G.Baigalmaa presented the award and read out the Presidential decree on January 12 in the State Palace.
The decree reads, “In recognition of his contribution to humanitarian cooperation of Mongolia and the Republic of Korea and to health sector of Mongolia, a citizen of the Republic of Korea and President of the Korean Open Doctors Society, Mr. Ko Beon Sok is awarded the High-ranking State Order of Mongolia – Polar Star.”
Ko Beon Sok, since his first visit to Mongolia in 1997, observed the high sickness rate among the population, and initiated a humanitarian action. He started working as the President of Korean Open Doctors Society and has been cooperating with Mongolian Red Cross Society which works with the hospitals and family health centers from around centers of all 21 aimags and all districts of Ulaanbaatar.
In doing so, the Red Cross Society connected the people living below the poverty line and belonging to vulnerable groups with specialized Korean doctors.
Humanitarian healthcare actions were conducted in Khentii, Dornod, Dornogobi, Umnugobi, Uvurkhangai, Dundgobi, Zavkhan, Khuvsgul, Arkhangai and Selenge aimags, Zuunburen and Altanbulag soums, and in Nalaikh and Bayanzurkh districts of Ulaanbaatar. More than 30 children received charge-free surgeries and over 54 thousand people received medical diagnosis and treatment in South Korea.
