MEETING WITH ATTENDEES OF THE INTERNATIONAL JOINT SYMPOSIUM ON CANCER MANAGEMENT
Today, President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga received doctors and professors who came to Mongolia to attend the 10th Japanese-Mongolian international joint symposium on Surgical Treatment of Digestive Tract. The 10th symposium was held under the theme The Modern Approach for Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Cancer Management.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. J.Chinburen, General Director of the National Cancer Center of Mongolia, thanked President Battulga for organizing the 10th symposium under his auspices and briefed him about the broadening scope of the symposium every year. In particular, world leading doctors and professors specializing in digestive tract surgery came to participate in the symposium from Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, Kazakhstan, and Russia.
On the sidelines the international symposium, a Mongolian-Korean joint team successfully performed a living donor liver transplant, and it was the fifth time the National Cancer Center conducted such surgery. Moreover, joint teams also conducted laparoscopic liver resection and broadcasted the procedure live, which became a major practice in the modern approach for hepato-pancreato-biliary cancer treatment.
Furthermore, it was reported to the President that Mongolian doctors and nurses of provincial hospitals and district-level healthcare centers had been given the opportunity to listen to the presentations of leading international doctors and professors for free at the symposium in Ulaanbaatar, while the entrance fee of such international symposiums usually costs more than USD 500.
On behalf of the international doctors and professors, Dr. Masakazu Yamamoto of Tokyo Women’s Medical University thanked President Battulga for the audience and appreciated how Mongolian doctors improve their skills thanks to the annual international symposium, as cancer is becoming a major issue in Mongolia.
President Battulga requested the international doctors and professors to put more efforts into their training of Mongolian doctors and expressed his confidence that the income of Mongolian citizens will soon reach the level where they can afford to prioritize healthcare services, while wishing success to their collaboration. The President also expressed his support for the subsequent joint symposiums and discussed elaborate views on cancer, its treatment, and cooperation in this area.
