MEETING WITH THE HU BAND
Today, President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga received the members and producer B.Dashdondog of the Hu Band, a rock group from Mongolia that is introducing a new genre called ‘the hunnu rock’ and gathering international support.
President Battulga and singer, producer B.Dashdondog, State Honored Artist, recalled the era of the mid-1990s, when the music market of Mongolia was narrow, and a live music concert that they helped organize, which brought a breath of fresh air to the music industry.
Producer B.Dashdondog founded the Hu Band in 2016, based on his long study of the music market to introduce the band. The band plans to release their first album titled The Gereg in 2019 with 9 tracks in total, and the first two tracks are called ‘Yuve Yuve Yu’ and ‘Wolf Totem’. The two songs were played about 27 million times on Youtube in less than a year.
The ‘Wolf Totem’ became the first Mongolian song to top the Billboard’s Hard Rock Digital Song Sales and the ‘Yuve Yuve Yu’ was ranked among the top ten in the same chart.
As ‘hunnu rock’ music isn’t limited to one single genre of music and appeals to not only rock-lovers, but a bigger circle of listeners, the Hu Band has signed with a world leading record label to produce four albums in the next four years.
President Battulga congratulated the band members and the producers on their accomplishments in promotion of Mongolia, while reminding them to keep focused on their music and the unity of the band despite of fame.
President Battulga also discussed about the band’s unique dressing style, the musical instruments, the future plan, and the finance. For instance, the band requires extensive funding, especially in areas of remaking of the musical instruments—khuur and tsuur—due to lack of reserve, buying designer clothes to signify the band’s genre and character, and touring in foreign countries.
President Battulga wished success to the band members.
