MEETING WITH CHA GYU-GEUN, COMMISSIONER OF THE KOREA IMMIGRATION SERVICE
President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga today received Cha Gyu-geun, Commissioner of the Immigration Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Korea, who is paying a visit to Mongolia.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Battulga mentioned that the largest number of Mongolians residing in a foreign country were the over 46 thousand Mongolians living in the Republic of Korea and requested the Korean side to work towards removing and easing some of the barriers that Mongolians face when travelling to the country. The President also expressed his satisfaction with the successful visit of the commissioner to Mongolia.
The visit of Mr. Cha Gyu-geun to Mongolia has resulted in a major development in the works to ease the conditions for Mongolian citizens travelling to the Republic of Korea. The corresponding institutions of the two countries have been working together within the framework of the Means and Action Plan on Reducing the Screening Period of Visa Applications to the Republic of Korea, as a result of which the existing obstacles in obtaining a visa of the Republic of Korea will be basically eliminated.
By using the KHUR database, introduced by the Government of Mongolia, visa applicants who demonstrate low risks of violating visa conditions will be able to receive response to their applications within 10 days.
President Battulga expressed his confidence that there will soon come a time when Mongolians travel to the Republic of Korea for tourism instead of employment since Mongolia is actively working towards robust industrial development and increase of employment. The President also invited Korean tourists to destine to Mongolia in summer, given the extreme heatwave in their country, and enjoy the boundless steppe and the sky full of stars.
