MEETING WITH TEDROS ADHANOM GHEBREYESUS, DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION
President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga, who is attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, met Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, yesterday.
During the meeting, two sides expressed their concerns over the outbreak of a new coronavirus in the People’s Republic of China, Mongolia’s southern neighbor. Although the WHO issues instructions to close borders in circumstances considered to be of serious consequences, the WHO Director-General advised to increase customs inspection at the moment. The Director-General also remarked that it was necessary to follow the guidance of the WHO and ensure the readiness of hospitals as there would be increasing migration within and outside of China due to the Lunar New Year celebrations.
President Battulga asked the Director-General to pay close attention to the coronavirus outbreak and discussed matters pertaining to air pollution and public health issues arising from the levels of air pollution.
