PRESIDENT KHALTMAAGIIN BATTULGA MEETS HIS RUSSIAN COUNTERPART VLADIMIR PUTIN
On the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit being held in Qingdao, China, President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga met President of Russia Vladimir Putin today.
After their warm greeting, the Presidents of Mongolia and Russia expressed their satisfaction towards the progress in bilateral relations.
President Battulga highlighted the successful conclusion of the ‘Mongolian-Russian Initiative – 2018’ series of events, held on June 7th-9th in Ulaanbaatar in accordance with an agreement reached with President Putin during their meeting which took place last September in Vladivostok, Russia.
President Battulga reiterated Mongolia’s readiness to advance bilateral cooperation in all sectors, especially in terms of economic cooperation and increase of trade turnover. The Mongolian President made a proposal to put the infrastructural reform of Ulaanbaatar Railway Joint Venture into action with engagement from both sides.
For his part, President Putin noted the economic importance of the Agreement on Transit Transport by Railway between Russia and Mongolia, which was signed during the ‘Russian-Mongolian Initiative – 2018’ series of events, for Mongolia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin then said “Good opportunities for cooperation are available in the energy sector. Our Mongolian partners proposed to build through their country’s territory the main oil and gas pipelines from Russia to China. We generally support, it’s a good idea.”
The sides exchanged views on a number of matters, including joint celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Khalkha River Battle in 2019, strengthening of bilateral defense cooperation, cooperation in agricultural sector and the possibilities of agricultural equipment supply.
