PRESIDENT RECEIVES THE NICHOLAS ROERICH INTERNATIONAL PRIZE FOR 2018
President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga has been awarded the 2018 Nicholas Roerich International Prize. This is the first time a head of state has received the prize in the last 16 years.
President Battulga was named the 2018 recipient of the Nicholas Roerich International Prize for his contribution to the development of the Mongolian cultural identity through a number of projects, including:
- Supporting the large-scale archaeological research project on a burial field of Hunnu (Xiongnu) aristocrats dating back to 110 BCE in a site named Gol Mod-II in Khanui Bag, Undur-Ulaan Soum, Arkhangai Aimag,
- Building the Chinggis Khaan Equestrian Statue and the 13th Century Tourism Complex,
- Launching the Grand Maitreya Project to build a 54-meter tall standing statue of Maitreya designed by Undur Gegeen Zanabazar with the aim of building the spiritual immunity of Mongolians through culture and developing tourism.
The award ceremony took place on October 13th in Russia, and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President G.Baigalmaa received the award on behalf of the President.
