PRESIDENT PUTS PARTIAL VETO ON THE LAW ON 2020 BUDGET
President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga forwarded an official letter to Chairman of the State Great Khural Gombojavyn Zandanshatar today, notifying the latter on his partial veto on the Law on State Budget for 2020 and the accompanying legislation.
In the official letter, President Battulga says, “I have reviewed the Law on State Budget for 2020 and the accompanying legislation that were adopted by the Parliament on November 13, 2019, and forwarded to the Office of the President on November 25, 2019.
Despite my repeated demands to adopt an efficient budget that reflects retrenchment and prioritizes the national interests while reminding the Parliament, during its discussion on the budget of last year, of the importance of the State Budget as a visionary unified policy that must not be based on insignificant short-term interests and must take into account the achievements, outcome, and risks of the future, and a key policy that must be adopted within the framework of a complex objective that aims to ensure the economic independence and sovereignty of our country, there has not been much progress.
…As such, I deemed it right to put a partial veto on the Law on State Budget for 2020 and the accompanying legislation to provide the Mongolian People’s Party and the parliamentarians elected from the party with an opportunity to reflect on their responsibilities, reconsider the promises they made to the constituents and the policies and solutions they opted for, and amend some of their erring policies with the 2020 budget.”
