{"id":6584,"slug":"meeting-with-victoria-kwakwa-world-bank-vice-president-for-east-asia-and-pacific","status":"publish","tags":[],"title":{"rendered":"MEETING WITH VICTORIA KWAKWA, WORLD BANK VICE PRESIDENT FOR EAST ASIA AND PACIFIC"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President of\nMongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga received Victoria Kwakwa, Vice President for East\nAsia and Pacific of the World Bank, and Andrei Mikhnev, Country Director for\nMongolia, today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a study jointly taken by the National Statistics Office of Mongolia and the World Bank, poverty rate in Mongolia stands at 28.4 percent, and the sides agreed that it indicates a relatively high level of poverty and represents a lack of inclusion in the economic growth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President\nBattulga expressed his view saying that \u201cOver the last few years, we have made\nconsiderable progress in terms of developing infrastructure and boosting road\ntransport and electricity supply in not only Ulaanbaatar, but the provinces as\nwell, and it has contributed to slowing down internal migration and expediting\nrural development. But the implementation of large-scale projects that will increase\nherding household income will reduce poverty levels more effectively,\u201d and gave\nin-depth information on certain projects and programs to Ms. Kwakwa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For her part,\nVice President Kwakwa expressed the World Bank\u2019s interest in the fact that there\nare completed feasibility studies for projects aiming to process and export\nproducts such as meat, leather, and wool and cashmere, which are the income\nsources of more than 180 thousand herding households, and that a trial export of\ncertain products has already been launched. The Vice President then instructed\nCountry Director Mikhnev to gain familiarity with the projects, while\nexpressing willingness to work towards coordination of these projects with\nongoing projects and discuss and support some regional projects with\ncorresponding World Bank directors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of the\nmeeting, the sides expressed mutual appreciation of the opportunity for holding\na detailed discussion at the time when the World Bank is determining the scope\nof its partnership with Mongolia in 2020-2024 and negotiating the terms of\nbilateral strategic document and affirmed mutual commitment to implementing the\nabove-mentioned projects that aim to reduce poverty levels and promote the\ndevelopment of non-mining sectors. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"date":"2020-01-13T15:05:03","excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga received Victoria Kwakwa, Vice President for East Asia and Pacific of the World Bank, and Andrei Mikhnev, Country Director for Mongolia, today.
