{"id":6740,"slug":"general-election-commission-inquired-about-preparations-for-parliamentary-elections","status":"publish","tags":[],"title":{"rendered":"GENERAL ELECTION COMMISSION INQUIRED ABOUT PREPARATIONS FOR PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga<\/strong> called a meeting today with chairman and members of the <strong>General Election Commission (GEC)<\/strong> to discuss about its preparatory actions for the upcoming parliamentary elections due June 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to the fact that the elections are coinciding with the\ncritical circumstances of coronavirus outbreak, the Head of state inquired\nabout the measures for ensuring public safety and preventing public gatherings\nand other events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Present at the meeting were Chairman of GEC Ch.Sodnomtseren,\nSecretary &nbsp;Ts. Boldsaikhan, members\nO.Amgalanbaatar, G.Baigalmaa, E.Batbold, D.Bayanduuren, B.Ganbat, R.Sodkhuu and\nU.Enkhtur. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Informing that some of the world countries have postponed\ntheir elections while some are holding the elections as per schedule, the GEC\nChairman, Mr. Sodomtseren said \u201cIt is inevitable that the parliamentary\nelections might have to be postponed in the conditions where large-scale\nlife-threatening situation arises\u201d. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The GEC Secretary Ts.Boldsaikhan suggested tasking the\nMinistry of Health to conduct risk assessment study. He noted that the number\nof workers to be appointed from electoral units and committees cannot be\nreduced due to the polling procedures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D. Bayanduuren, a member of GEC, highlighted that sticking to\nthe coronavirus precautions would be impossible as rural polling units will be accommodated\nin Gers (traditional housing). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThe important point we cannot overlook is whether the citizens will or will not vote. What happens if voters wouldn\u2019t show up? This is why we have to run a public poll beforehand\u201d<\/em>, said U.Enkhtur, a member of the Commission. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of this meeting, President Battulga touched on\nthe issues of inevitable public gatherings, registering by fingerprint, use of\nfacemasks and gloves, and their supplies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dignitary also underlined the necessity to bring back\nMongolian citizens abroad as their living conditions could worsen.
