The Italian people revere King Victor Emmanuel II as the \u201cFather of National Unity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Constructed from white marble over a period of more than fifty years beginning in 1885, the complex today stands not only as a historic and architectural landmark but also as a symbol of national pride and unity. The\u00a0<em>Tomb of the Unknown Soldier<\/em>\u00a0represents the Italian people\u2019s independence, conviction, and patriotism, and features an eternal flame symbolizing everlasting remembrance.
