MEETING WITH AMBASSADOR OF THE US JENNIFER ZIMDAHL GALT
On July 19, the President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga welcomed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Mongolia Jennifer Zimdahl Galt. Ambassador Ms. Jennifer Zimdahl Galt congratulated President Battulga on his election as the President of Mongolia and appreciated for taking time to meet with her. President Battulga noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the US, and expressed Mongolia’s interest to further expand this relationship.
President Battulga made two cooperation proposals to Ambassador Ms. Jennifer Zimdahl Galt and one of them was a request from the US to support Mongolia in investigating its property from the offshore zone. In order to promote Mongolia’s democracy, the US Government decided to exempt Mongolia’s textile and woven products from tax in 1992, but Mongolian companies couldn’t use this opportunity due to the circumstances at that time. Secondly, the President proposed to reconsider this decision and asked if there is any opportunity to exempt Mongolia’s textile and woven products from tax once again. This decision will help create many jobs for Mongolian women. The US Congress exempted textile products from Cambodia, Mauritania and South Sudan from tax.
Ambassador Ms. Jennifer Zimdahl Galt said that she would be pleased to help Mongolia fight corruption and investigate its illegal assets in the offshore account. She also promised to study opportunities to import Mongolia’s textile products to the US free of duty. Ambassador Ms. Jennifer Zimdahl Galt mentioned that the US is interested in cooperation with Mongolia in agriculture and renewable energy sectors, and said that they have already started to implement the first projects. She also noted that the Millennium Challenge Corporation of the US is set to develop the Second Compact in Mongolia.
Also, they discussed opportunities to expand the bilateral relations and develop mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
