FOOD-SECURITY SIDE CONFERENCE DUBBED “CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS IN MEAT, EGG, PORK AND CHICKEN PRODUCTION” HELD
We should strive to rely 100 percent on the domestic food production in order to ensure food secutiry.
Food security has become the most threatening problem, lately. As a consequence of weak food security, unprecedented cases of new illnesses tend to occur, risk of cancer increase and age of patients suffering from cancer get younger and younger. President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga is dedicating one of the first major events under his administration to food security, a priority in his view as it is the most closely related issue with human health.
Main session of the National Forum is to take place on the 12th of September at the initiative of President of Mongolia Kh.Battulga, under theme “Food Security of Mongolia”.
The National Forum is hosted by the Office of the President, and co-organized by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, Mongolian Association of Food Producers and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
Side conferences are being held before the mentioned date. Today, on August 28, a conference and open discussion is taking place in the Citizens’ Chamber of the President of Mongolia, themed “Challenges and Solutions in Meat, Egg, Pork and Chicken Production”.
At the opening of the side conference, the non-staff advisor to he President in charge of Drug and Food Security L.Erdenechimeg said, “As initiated by the President, Food Security of Mongolia National Forum is being held this September 12. The importance of organizing such a forum lies in the fact that we have set a goal to sustain consumption of strategically important food products by 100 percent national production. We trust You, the food producers, with fulfillment of the goal”.
Today’s side conference was participated by more than 70 representatives of Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, Mongolian Food Producers Association, Makh Impex Co.Ltd., KhunsComplex LLC, Khatan Suikh Impex LLC, Shimt Orgol LLC, Trust Trade LLC, Mongol Makh Expo LLC, Makh Market LLC and Khanbulgan Khuns LLC.
The participants touched upon the key challenges they are facing in production of meat products. Choosing meat production as topic of the first side conference was not at all a random decision. Meat is the main food that is consumed by Mongolians. Even though it is obviously a priority to ensure security in meat production in order to supply healthy food to the population, there is another purpose.
The participants underlined that Mongolia has not yet managed to make its animal husbandry, which revolves around 70 million heads of five kinds of livestock, a main business sector. They unanimously agreed that producing value-added goods from livestock can yield more profit than mining does.
At the end of the side conference, President’s advisor L.Erdenechimeg expressed gratitude to the participants for coming up with multiple initiatives and stated that she will be able to receive more ideas through social media.
Side conference will continue for another two days with conferences themed “Challenges and Solutions in Milk, Dairy and Beverage Production” on August 29, and “Challenges and Solutions in Potato, Vegetables and Wheat Production” on August 30.
