MEETING WITH DELEGATES OF THE INTER-PARLIAMENTARY UNION
The State Great Khural of Mongolia and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) are co-organizing the Second Regional Seminar for the Asia-Pacific Region Parliaments on Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on May 27-28 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga received the delegates who came to Mongolia to attend the seminar.
President Battulga started the meeting by welcoming the delegates to Mongolia, while stressing that the delegates’ efforts would make significant contribution to the implementation of the SDGs.
IPU President Gabriela Cuevas Barron thanked the President of Mongolia for taking the time to meet the delegates and said that the hosting of the regional seminar was an important contribution of Mongolia to achieving the SDGs. Furthermore, Ms. Barron spoke about the functions and priority directions of the IPU, including increasing public participation in parliament, that will help adopt laws that are favorable to the public, thus strengthening democracy.
At the end of the meeting, President Battulga underlined that Mongolia was still an oasis democracy despite of the numerous breakthroughs and setbacks on its path of development since the transition to democracy in 1990, while wishing success to the seminar.
