PRESIDENT VISITS THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS
President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga, who is paying a visit to the United States, met members of the Senate and representatives of the administration in the Library of Congress on August 1.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Battulga said, “…Mongolia established diplomatic relations with 192 countries, and we have maintained strategic partnership with four of them until now. I am pleased to declare strategic partnership with the United States today.
Yesterday, President Trump and I had a frank discussion for an extended time. One of the important matters that we discussed is how to come up with practical solutions and means to improve bilateral economic relations in numerical value based on the strategic partnership that we have.
Mongolia aspires to position the United States as an important trade partner and a major investor. There are opportunities of developing bilateral relations and cooperation in the spheres of economy, investment, banking and finance, and commerce. The two sides agree that bilateral economic cooperation is quite underdeveloped.”
President Battulga also noted his dissatisfaction with the fact that U.S. trade constituted only 1.7 percent of Mongolia’s total foreign trade turnover in 2018 and discussed the ways to collaborate in the areas of economy, investment, banking and finance, and commerce.
Afterwards, President Battulga visited the Asian Division of the Library of Congress to familiarize with some sections of the book collection.
