MEETING WITH ALEXANDER SERGEEV, PRESIDENT OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES
President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga received today delegates of the Russian Academy of Sciences, including its President, academician Alexander Sergeev and Vice President, academician Andrey Adrianov, who are visiting Mongolia.
President Battulga emphasized that the signing of a renewed cooperation agreement between the Academies of Sciences of Mongolia and Russia during the first presidential-level visit by the Russian Academy of Sciences to Mongolia in 98 years was a proof that bilateral scientific cooperation will prosper in the future.
Furthermore, the President noted that identifying the areas of joint research within the framework of the newly signed cooperation agreement and facilitating a permanent mechanism for cooperation were priority directions, while expressing his readiness to support.
The sides agreed that space science was an established area of bilateral scientific cooperation and exchanged views on the ways to develop intensive cooperation within priority space programs and the existing opportunities on utilizing the unique features of the Gobi Desert in Mongolia.
The sides also agreed that it was desirable to restore cooperation in the disciplines of history, culture, and archaeology given that there were many scholars, who are well-established in these branches, on both sides.
Moreover, the sides discussed a variety of other issues such as science budget, patents and the developments in regional science. President Battulga noted the importance of active bilateral cooperation owing to the necessity for studies and initiatives of scientists in the scientific disciplines that are at the edge of rapid development.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides agreed to designate a person in charge of each issue that was discussed and facilitate a cooperation mechanism before meeting again.
