MEETING WITH TEACHERS AND STUDENTS
President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga today received teachers and students who have been successfully participating in regional and international Olympiads in the subjects of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, and informatics.
President Battulga congratulated the students on their achievements and progress made at international Olympiads and expressed his readiness to support their activities. For instance, the President accepted their request to organize preparatory activities for international Olympiads under his patronage and expressed his willingness to provide assistance to the hosting of the 22nd Asian Physics Olympiad in Ulaanbaatar in 2021.
The teachers and students discussed the financial aspect of participating in Olympiads, which presents a challenge every year. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Sport allocates MNT 200 million for Olympiad expenses in its annual budget, yet this money is spent solely on travel expenses, meaning that the Olympiad participants are required to pay for themselves in order to represent their country at an international event.
The teachers also expressed their views on resuming the former policy of granting government scholarship to students who have been accepted by world leading institutes and rendering support to a student who has received an offer from a world leading institute as a result of his or her performance at an Olympiad.
