EXHIBITION UNVEILS PHOTOGRAPHS OF 20TH CENTURY MONGOLIA
President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga visited the Museum of Cultural History of Oslo, Norway, today to view an exhibition unveiling historical artifacts related to the history and culture of Mongolia.
Moreover, some pieces from the personal collection of Norwegian explorer Oscar Mamen that have connection to Mongolia were displayed, becoming subjects of interest as well. During his travel in Mongolia in 1912, Oscar Mamen captured the life and culture of Mongolians of that time. In 2016, some 5,000 photographs and clips belonging to him, including ones related to Mongolians, were discovered in a village near Oslo. According to Svein Stølen, Principal of the University of Oslo, and Håkon Glørstad, Director of the Museum of Cultural History, the photographs and artifacts related to Mongolia served not only as an anchor in bilateral cultural relations, but also the foundation for further studies and research.
The exhibition featured 34 photographs and 20 artifacts, which are planned to be sent to Mongolia within this year for the extension of an ongoing research. Therefore, President Battulga presented a certificate for a presidential scholarship to Maria Kartveit, citizen of Norway, who is conducting a research in the field of Mongolia studies, for studying in Mongolia.
Moreover, President Battulga conferred the state high decoration of Mongolia—the Order of the Polar Star—upon Maria Magdolna Tatar, citizen of Norway and Member of the International Association for Mongolian Studies, as a recognition of her contribution to the development and promotion of Mongolian studies.
