RETURNING PEACEKEEPERS WELCOMED BY THE PRESIDENT
The Mongolian Armed Forces deployed about 3,300 military personnel to joint peacekeeping operations with the United States for America in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, since 2003. The contingent of the latest mission has returned home on June 4th, 2021.
A welcoming ceremony to pay respect to the homecoming peacekeepers took place at the central squate of Ulaanbaatar, today. President of Mongolia and Commander-in-Chief of the Mongolian Armed Forces Khaltmaagiin Battulga attended and addressed the ceremony.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding Concerming Contribution to the United Nations Standby Arrangements, signed 1999, and the Mongolian Law on participation of Military and Police personnel in the United Nations peacekeeping operations and other international operations, passed 2002, the Mongolian Armed Forces has successfully deployed peacekeepers for four peacekeeping missions in Afghanistan.
