PRESIDENT KHURELSUKH WISHES SUCCESS TO MONGOLIA’S OLYMPIC ATHLETES
President of Mongolia U.Khurelsukh attended the official Send-off ceremony for the Mongolian Olympic Contingent on July 9, 2021. During the ceremony, the President wished success to the teams and athletes representing Mongolia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games before handing over the flag of Mongolia to the Chef de Mission of the national team B.Battushig.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will be held in Japan from July 23 to August 8, 2021. Mongolia’s national team will compete in 10 sports at the Olympics, a record number in the country’s history.
In his speech, President of Mongolia U.Khurelsukh said:
“Dear Olympic and Paralympic athletes, coaches and representatives,
There have been 43 athletes of the Mongolian national team qualified for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in 10 sports and 9 athletes qualified for the XVI Summer Paralympic Games in 6 sports in Tokyo. They have won the hearts and minds of our people and are now ready to travel to Tokyo to test their speed, agility, courage and endurance for the Olympic Games. I would like to express my gratitude to our athletes for competing in the new sports of “3×3” Basketball and Table Tennis and qualified for the Olympic Games for the first time.
Mongolia’s history at the Olympic Games began with the Tokyo Olympics in 1964 and the first gold medal was won at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. I remember as if it was yesterday when Mongolians joyfully greeted the champions of the Beijing Olympics. It is a crucial moment for us to welcome the new Olympic champions and the enrichment of Mongolian sports history from the Tokyo Olympics Games this year.
I firmly believe that you will remember that the government has paid attention to the fulfillment of the requirements mentioned in the strategic program for the preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games and the efforts and support of many organizations and people. I would like to wish you all the best in lifting the spirits of our people during the pandemic, raising the hopes of our people, Mongolian National Anthem playing in the Tokyo sky and raising National Flag many times. I wish you the best of luck! “
Then O.Khulan, a member of the “3×3” national basketball team, spoke on behalf of the athletes. She said, “We, the athletes, have worked hard during the global pandemic to ensure quality training every day and participate in Olympic Games without losing the trust of the government and the people. As athletes, we declare in front of the national emblem of Mongolia that we have good organization and discipline, abide by the requirements and rules of Olympic Organizing Committee, do not dope, and compete fairly with athletes from other countries.”
The official farewell ceremony for the Mongolian Olympic Contingent was also attended by the staff of the Office of the President of Mongolia, the Presidential Advisor, officials from the Physical Culture and Sports Authority, Mongolian National Olympic Committee and Mongolian Paralympic Committee as well as athletes who qualified for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
