PRESIDENT KHURELSUKH ISSUES A DECREE ON TREASURING AND PROMOTING THE MORIN KHUUR
On February 01, President of Mongolia Ukhnaa Khurelsukh issued a Decree on Treasuring and Promoting Morin Khuur, the traditional Mongolian musical instrument-Horse-Head Fiddle.
The President of Mongolia directed the Government of Mongolia to expedite the efforts to treasure and promote the Morin Khuur, an intangible cultural heritage of the humankind, lasting pride of the Mongols, a source of the Mongolian millennia-old history, the musical sutra of the vigor of the Mongols, and the twin strings to sing the Mongol wisdom and soul.
With the Decree, the President directs:
- To include a Morin Khuur program in the secondary school curriculum by securing funding and creating a conducive learning environment and conditions in general education institutions for enhancing comprehensive national art education,
- To offer Morin Khuur training in cultural centers and palaces of soums, aimags, districts, and capital city,
- To prioritize the global promotion and dissemination of the knowledge of the Morin Khuur and establish a dedicated program to support its training of Morin Khuur and other national arts in Mongolian schools and training centers abroad,
- To expand the Morin Khuur Ensemble, the Cultural Envoy of Mongolia and Recipient of the Supreme Decoration of the Mongolian State, Order of Chinggis Khaan, into an orchestra and increase its budget, providing it with the necessary resources, and support the system of training professional Morin Khuur players,
- To develop the craftsmanship and production of Morin Khuur and train skilled Morin Khuur crafters.
President Khurelsukh mandated the Government of Mongolia to organize the Morin Khuur International Festival under the auspices of the President of Mongolia every three years. Also, the President encouraged every Mongolian family to contribute to preserving our traditional art and heritage by learning and playing the Morin Khuur at home and passing it down to future generations.
