The first takeoff was the flight OM501 administered by Boeing 737-800 airliner of MIAT Mongolian Airlines, flying to Narita Airport, Tokyo, Japan.
The President delivered a speech to the opening ceremony:
“On this auspicious day, the new Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Khushig Valley, one of the most important developments in Mongolia and a symbol of the relations and cooperation between the peoples of Mongolia and Japan, connecting landlocked Mongolia with the world. I am pleased to be able to participate in this beautiful and memorable moment of the official launch of our first flight.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the distinguished guests, the Ambassador Extraordinary and the Plenipotentiary of Japan to Mongolia and the Embassy staff for attending today’s event.
There is a saying in Mongolia: “the door is where home starts from”. I am sincerely happy that this new airport opens its doors to the people of Mongolia and symbolizes the prosperity of our country.
Three years ago, in 2018, during my official visit to Japan as the Prime Minister at the invitation my Japanese counterpart, the construction and commissioning of the airport was the most important topic among many issues in the field of bilateral relations, cooperation and strategic partnership we discussed.
Since then, the new airport project has been in full swing, and last year we received our new airport. Due to the pandemic, the work was postponed for some time, but today the historic first official flight from Ulaanbaatar to Tokyo is taking off.
This wonderful event symbolizes the friendship between the peoples of our two countries.
I think it will be very useful as the airport, which has a capacity of handling three million passengers a year, will be used not only for civil aviation, but also for heavy-load cargo flights, for the sake of Mongolia’s socio-economic growth, especially the growth of tourism industry. Thank you again for attending the ceremony of the first flight of the new airport named after the Great Chinggis Khaan.
I would like to take this opportunity to express gratitude as the President of Mongolia to the constructive government-level partnership demonstrated on both sides, Mongolian and Japanese businesspeople, and the staff, engineers, technical workers, and everyone involved in the construction of this airport.
The launch of this airport is of great significance for the development of our country. The “New Zuunmod City” project approved by the State Great Khural is viable, now that the airport is commissioned. There will be a new logistics center in Mongolia. New life will blossom after this airport. I am confident that “New Zuunmod City” will develop into a great residential, business, economic and trade area.
Congratulations again to everyone who participated in today’s event!
I wish the people of Mongolia and Japan strong friendship, and the strategic partnership between our two countries to develop and prosper!
Thank you! “
