MEETING WITH SUSAN LINES, PRESIDENT OF THE AUSTRALIAN SENATE
On October 17, 2024, Australian Senate President Susan Lines, who is on an official visit to Mongolia, paid a courtesy call on President of Mongolia Uknaa Khurelsukh.
President Khurelsukh emphasized the importance of high level dialogues and reciprocal visits in enhancing the political partnership between the two countries. The President expressed his satisfaction that Mongolia, sharing democratic values, is set to elevate its bilateral relations with Australia -“third neighbour”, to a “Comprehensive Partnership”.
President underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation in education, mining, defence, humanitarian sectors, and people-to-people exchanges, while also expressing a desire to expand collaboration in emerging global sectors such as energy and the green transition.
President highlighted that more than six thousand Mongolian students are currently studying in Australia, and more than 60 Australian companies operate in Mongolia, emphasizing the expanding bilateral relations. Additionally, through the “President’s Scholar-2100”, about 60 Mongolian students are pursuing higher education in Australia. President also expressed satisfaction with the initiation of bilateral negotiations on a Social Security Agreement to regulate the growing people to people exchanges, as well as the successful conclusion of an Air Services Agreement between the two countries.
Senate President Susan Lines remarked on the expanding cooperation across various social and economic sectors and praised Mongolia’s recent legal and policy reforms aimed at increasing women’s participation in social and political decision-making.
President of the Senate Susan Lines also expressed confidence that the Women’s Climate Resilience Project being implemented in cooperation with Australia and the Asia Foundation would contribute to the practical realization of the outcomes of the World Women’s Forum held under the auspices of the President of Mongolia on the theme “For a Green Future” this August.
