FIRST RESIDENT AMBASSADOR OF EUROPEAN UNION PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union to Mongolia, Mr. Traian Laurentiu Hristea presented his letter of credence to President of Mongolia Mr. Khaltmaagiin Battulga on May 29th.

Mongolia and the European Union established diplomatic relations on August 1st, 1989. The European Union Delegation to Mongolia had been operating from Beijing, China, until November 2nd, 2017, when the European Union opened its Delegation in Ulaanbaatar.

With the presentation of his credentials, Mr. Hristea thus becomes the first resident Ambassador of the European Union to Mongolia.

After presenting his credentials, Mr. Hristea thanked President Battulga for accepting his credentials on short notice, expressing his delight at returning to a country where he stayed as a student. The Ambassador expressed his commitment to prioritizing the development of bilateral trade relations, focusing on not only bilateral, but regional cooperation, and making efforts to advance bilateral relations, based on the shared values of good governance, rule of law and human rights.

For his part, President Battulga wished the Ambassador success for his term in Mongolia, calling for productive celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the European Union, which will occur next year. The President conveyed his hope for speedy development of bilateral relations, seeing as the Ambassador is already well-acquainted with Mongolian society and economy, having studied in the country. President Battulga expressed his readiness to work with the European Union on the most challenging issues, including human rights, especially children’s rights, air pollution, food safety, global warming and desertification, while adding that he would pay due attention to projects and programs run by the European Union in Mongolia.
