MEETING WITH MINISTER OF FOOD, AGRICULTURE AND LIGHT INDUSTRY P.SERGELEN
On August 1, the President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga welcomed P.Sergelen, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry. They exchanged views on preparation for winter, harvest situation, cattle and meat production.
President Battulga mentioned that this year’s severe drought that hit almost the entire territory of the country could lead to loss of harvest, increase of wheat price, and eventually dzud disaster in winter. Therefore, the President reminded the authorities to work hard and take appropriate measures.
Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry P.Sergelen noted that the drought conditions occurred over 84 percent of the territory and there is a risk of losing about 40 percent of the total harvest. Ministry is working on harvesting, winter preparation for livestock, meat production and export, according to certain plan.
President Battulga noted: “Our policy on food and agriculture should be consistent no matter the election result. Our people and our livestock will never change. When I was Minister of Food and Agriculture I initiated “New Soum” project and agricultural stock market. I worked on the projects of creating meat and vegetable warehouses and greenhouse for vegetable through the Chinggis Bond fund. We should support agriculture sphere. There is an opportunity to build independent irrigation systems in agriculture. We should pay more attention to vaccination of livestock, reconstruction of Biocombinate factory in Songino, and supply the country’s vegetable need”.
At the meeting, President’s Advisor on Political Policy N.Altankhuyag, Head of department of Livestock Policy Implementation of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry L.Choi-Ish, and Head of Department of Agricultural Policy of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Ts.Bolorchuluun were present.
