PRESIDENT VIEWS EXHIBITION OF CHILDREN’S PAINTINGS AND LETTERS
On the occasion of Children’s Day, June 1st, an exhibition of children’s painting and writing opened at the State History Museum in the State Palace. President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga visited the exhibition and congratulated the child artists.
The exhibited works were collected under a children’s campaign named ‘My message to the President’, co-organized by the President’s Office, Good Neighbors Mongolia international non-government organization and the Mongolian Association of School Social Workers.
Organized between May 15th and 25th, the campaign brought together children of age 6-18, studying in over 180 schools across the country, who sent 10,516 letters and 1,268 paintings to the President. More than 100 select works were on display at the said exhibition.
While interacting with President Battulga, children interpreted the meaning of their works, which reflect their ideas, dreams and creativity to dedicate to this country. President Battulga said, “Children make up 34 percent of the population of Mongolia. Therefore, we have an independent law in force to protect children’s rights in this country. In order to better implement this law, ensure children’s freedom of speech, and make sure that Mongolian children are heard, we organized this campaign.”
Within the campaign, Mongolian children sent a total of 11,784 letters and paintings to the President. In a repetitive count in regard to the message delivered, 5 percent of these works sought for assistance, 20 percent addressed local development and refurbishment of school, 25 percent conveyed children’s dreams, 15 percent addressed implementation of legislation, 20 percent touched upon protection of children’s rights and 20 percent came up with new ideas and initiatives to contribute to the national development.
President Battulga posed for a family photo with the children and presented them with ‘Children’s Day’ gifts, wishing them the best in their future endeavors.
