ORDER OR GLORIOUS MOTHER CONFERRED

On the occasion of Children’s Day, June 1st, and pursuant to a decree of President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga, the Order of Glorious Mother, First and Second Class, was bestowed upon mothers with multiple children.

There are about 8,600 recipients of the Order of Glorious Mother on the national level in 2018, and President Battulga honored 350 representatives of these mothers, including a mother of six daughters and a mother who gave birth to twins three times, in the State Palace to present their medals on June 1st. Starting this year, the President will be presenting the First Class of the Order of Glorious Mother to all the recipients in person.

Following the ceremony, President Battulga conveyed his Children’s Day greetings and gave congratulatory speech to the mothers.

He said, “As part of a generation which enthusiastically celebrated the Children’s Day every year since childhood, I have taken interest in the history of this day.

Children’s Day or the International Day for Protection of Children is a 1951 initiative of the Women’s International Democratic Federation, which Mongolia accepted and started celebrating since June 1st, 1952.

I respect and support the tradition of honoring mothers with many children with the Order of Glorious Mother on this day. Children are the joy of a family and the future of a nation. Children are everything we have.

After counting barely 700 thousand and being considered a nation under threat of extinction in the early 20th century, Mongolia welcomed its 2 millionth citizen at the end of the 20th century, thanks to one of the many right policies pursued by the government. Since the time of the Mongolian People’s Republic, the government consistently enforced a policy to populate the nation through support for big families, including by means of issuing ‘Children’s Allowance’ and designating a year as ‘Children’s Year’; as a result, we are more than 3 million today.

Unfortunately, the ‘Children’s Allowance’, which is granted with the purpose of increasing the population and equally distributing the wealth of the nation, is being politicized recently with the allowance being distributed with discrimination and misunderstood as ‘welfare’. The decision-makers have to understand that the ‘Children’s Allowance’ is not a welfare. Demographically, reproduction of population is imbalanced with the upbringing of two children per family and sees growth with the birth of three or more children per family. The issuance of the Order of Glorious Mother to mothers of four and more children is a precious tradition of the Mongolian government that should be maintained and supported in times to come. The Order of Glorious Mother is the fairest award and the noblest order.

Dear mothers, I bow to you on behalf of myself and the Mongolian people. From ages that are now history to present day, mothers have been and remain the pride of this nation. I commend your hearty dedication and tireless work to raise the next generation of Mongolia.

May the children of Mongolia multiply

May the mothers of Mongolia age gracefully.”
