PRESIDENT MEETS HIS KYRGYZ COUNTERPART SOORONBAY JEENBEKOV
On the sidelines of the 18th Meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga held bilateral talks with President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov today in Qingdao, China.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Battulga congratulated President Sooronbay Jeenbekov on his victory in the presidential election last October and wished success to Kyrgyzstan’s presidency of the SCO.
President Battulga expressed his pleasure at the upcoming opening of the Embassy of Mongolia in Kyrgyzstan. The President spoke about how Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan, being landlocked countries, face a common problem of lack of economic opportunities, expressing Mongolia’s interest in cooperating with Kyrgyzstan on research on economic development for landlocked countries.
For his part, President Sooronbay Jeenbekov conveyed his view that development of political relations between Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia can help advance bilateral ties in all sectors despite of limited economic cooperation. President Sooronbay Jeenbekov expressed Kyrgyzstan’s interest in learning from Mongolia’s democratic development and election organization experience and stressed the importance of the development of cooperation in this area for the country.
The heads of state exchanged views on several matters, including advancement of bilateral ties in all sectors and promotion of tourism and cultural cooperation.
