MEETING WITH FEMALE MEMBERS OF THE PARLIAMENT
On May 3, President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga met female members of the Parliament, the 13 of whom make the unofficial women’s group in the Parliament, and exchanged views on the incidences of violence against children, especially against little kids, cases of missing children, and the legal environment surrounding these issues.
During the meeting, G.Uyanga, Civil Society and Human Rights Policy Advisor to the President, spoke about the President’s policy and some measures that were taken towards reduction of violence against children, and R.Bulgamaa, Adjunct Advisor to the President, gave fact-based information to the MPs on the application of the currently effective laws.
The MPs expressed their views on a wide range of related issues, including the existing reasons and conditions leading to violence against children, the consequences, and legal accountability.
At the end of the meeting, President Battulga stressed the need to reduce the talks and take immediate action in response to violence against children.
The sides agreed in principle on tightening the punishment on crimes against children and working together on this issue.
