PRESIDENT ATTENDS PANEL DISCUSSION THEMED STRATEGIC OUTLOOK: EURASIA

A panel discussion themed Strategic Outlook: Eurasia was held today at the World Economic Forum, which is taking place in Davos, Switzerland.

The discussion engaged President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Governor of the Astana International Financial Centre Kairat Kelimbetov, Russian banker Andrey L.Kostin, Director-General of the United Nations in Geneva Tatiana Valovaya, and Dean of the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford Ngaire Woods.

In his opening remarks, President Battulga said, “Mongolia has been taking an active part in the World Economic Forum. Mongolia is situated between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China, positioned as a link between Europe and Asia. For the last decade we have built over 6 thousand kilometer road, and now we are extending our rail network with the construction of a 400 km rail road. This infrastructure will make its contribution to the economy of Eurasia. I would like to ask for your cooperation in the development of infrastructure designed to increase the connectivity between Europe and Asia via Mongolia, a central Asian country.”

The participants of the panel session exchanged views on the strategic priorities for the Eurasian economies which are under pressure to meet the needs of its rapidly expanding population.
