MEETING WITH MARK RUTTE, PRIME MINISTER OF THE KINGDOM OF THE NETHERLANDS

President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga, who is attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, met Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, today.

President Battulga began the meeting by highlighting Mongolia’s interests to fully utilize the potentials for bilateral agricultural cooperation despite the fact that the Netherlands is one of the countries that made the heaviest investment into the mining sector of Mongolia.

For instance, the People’s Republic of China, Mongolia’s neighbor to the south, has lowered import tariffs on over 800 products, most of which are agricultural products. It was discussed that the increasing spending power of the Chinese population and the narrowing opportunities for the manufacturing of affordable goods will leave a positive impact on the future of Mongolian trade. Meanwhile, President Battulga made a proposal to open a Business Center of the Netherlands in Ulaanbaatar as there will be an increasing interest of investors in Mongolia owing to its geographic position connecting Europe with Asia and the expansion of road and rail networks in Mongolia.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte expressed his willingness to implement a policy on broadening bilateral agricultural cooperation and send a delegation to Mongolia for this purpose.

At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the sectors of livestock husbandry, infrastructure, and renewable energy in addition to agriculture. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Rutte congratulated Mongolia on its exemplary efforts to fight against climate change.
