PRESIDENT BATTULGA MEETS HUNGARIAN PM VIKTOR ORBAN VIA VIDEO CALL

President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga and Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban held a video conference on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties. At the beginning of the online meeting, the dignitaries exchanged greetings on the milestone diplomatic anniversary.

“I am delighted that many of the things we have discussed in Budapest in 2017 and Brussels in 2018 are successfully coming to fruition. I am content to hear that the much-discussed Biocombinat Factory modernization project has started to show tangible progress starting from this year. This is a testament to the continued development of our bilateral relations”, President Battulga said.

They discussed the circumstances surrounding the global pandemic, and the opportunities to enrich the bilateral cooperation in political, economic, agricultural, cultural and educational sectors, as well as in the field of water management.

President Battulga pointed out the need to enhance the bilateral economic cooperation. They attached special importance to the issues of cooperation in agriculture, construction of hydropower plants in 10 provinces of Mongolia, and water management, and agreed to collaborate on related projects and programs.

Mongolia has a vast territory and small population, the President stated and expressed concern for the water-related issues in the Gobi desert caused by the desertification due to the climate change. Mongolian water resource studies from 1970s and 1980s were conducted by Hungarian researchers.

The President expressed gratitude for the continued intake of Mongolian students to the Hungarian Government scholarships, which produce more than 200 Mongolian professionals each year, and said it would be of great significance to utilize these cadres in the growth of agriculture and water management.
