Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan Officially Welcomed

Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan Officially Welcomed

President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and First Lady Luvsandorj Bolortsetseg officially welcomed His Majesty Emperor Naruhito and Her Majesty Empress Masako of Japan at Sukhbaatar Square.

Upon a report of the Commander of the State Honor Guard, the National Anthems of the two countries were performed. The President of Mongolia, the First Lady and the distinguished guests paid tribute to the State Ceremonial Military White Banner, after which Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan greeted the State Honor Guard.

The welcoming ceremony was attended by representatives of the government of Mongolia, Mongolian recipients of the Imperial Orders awarded by the Emperor of Japan, and Mongolian Grand Champions of Japan’s professional sumo, including the 68th Yokozuna Asashoryu Dagvadorj Dolgorsuren, the 69th Yokozuna Hakuho Davaajargal Munkhbat and the 70th  Yokozuna Harumafuji Bayambadorj Davaanyam.

After greeting the honored guests present at the Welcoming ceremony, President H.E. Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and His Majesty Emperor Naruhito paid tribute to the Statue of Great Emperor Chinggis Khaan. His Majesty the Emperor of Japan then signed the Book of Honored Guests at the State Palace of Mongolia.

During the State Visit, Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan will attend the opening ceremony of the Naadam Festival as Guests of Honor. Their Majesties will visit the Gandantegchinlen Monastery, the Khustai National Park, the Mongolia-Japan Hospital, and educational institutions to explore the history, culture, and traditions of Mongolia. His Majesty Emperor Naruhito visited yesterday the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, Ulaanbaatar Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, and the Gachuurt Water Source site.

Moreover, Their Majesties will receive members of the Japanese community residing in Mongolia, as well as Mongolian nationals engaged in bilateral cooperation.

Mongolia and Japan established diplomatic relations in 1972. Since then, the two countries have developed a “Comprehensive Partnership” in 1996, elevated it to a “Strategic Partnership” in 2010, and have been further strengthening a “people-centered” Special Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity” since 2022.
