State Visit of Governor-General of Australia Samantha Mostyn Concludes

At the invitation of President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Samantha Mostyn, and the First Gentleman Simeon Beckett, have concluded their State Visit to Mongolia.

During the visit, President Khurelsukh and Governor-General Mostyn held official talks, exchanging views on strengthening friendly relations and cooperation, as well as expanding mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries. They also briefed media representatives on the outcomes of the meeting.

The Governor-General and the First Gentleman visited projects and programmes funded by the Government of Australia, including the “Oyu Tolgoi” project and the “Women’s Resilience to Climate Change” programme. They also visited the Polytechnic College in Nalaikh.

Furthermore, they became acquainted with the results of the “Libraries Without Borders” project, jointly implemented in 21 aimags and nine districts of Ulaanbaatar by the Australian Embassy, the National Library of Mongolia, and the Mongolian Library Association. On this occasion, over 40 selected works by Australian authors were donated to the National Library of Mongolia.

Governor-General Samantha Mostyn also met with representatives of non-governmental organisations, civil society, Australian volunteers, women entrepreneurs, and Mongolian graduates of scholarship and defence programmes in Australia.

Together with President Khurelsukh and First Lady Luvsandorj Bolortsetseg, the distinguished guests planted a commemorative tree at the “Ikh Tenger” Complex, visited the “Chinggis Khaan” National Museum, and enjoyed a festival featuring the traditional “Three Manly Games,” knucklebone shooting, and a national arts performance.

This State Visit, the first by an Australian Governor-General in 31 years, has opened a new chapter in bilateral relations and reaffirmed the commitment to elevate cooperation to the level of a “Comprehensive Partnership.”

Governor-General Samantha Mostyn and her spouse were seen off by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Batmunkh Battsetseg, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Australia Davaasuren Damdinsuren, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia to Mongolia Leo Zeng on September 9, 2025.
