PRESIDENT BATTULGA MEETS WITH AMBASSADOR OF INDIA SURESH BABU

On July 19, the President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga welcomed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to Mongolia Suresh Babu, who paid courtesy call on the President of Mongolia.

Ambassador Mr. Suresh Babu presented the letter of appreciation of the President of India Pranab Mukherjee and the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, to the President of Mongolia.

The parties noted that the both countries have profound bonds in religious and cultural terms from the ancient time, and this relationship is expanding in defense, security, education, information technology and other sectors in the past years.

President Battulga emphasized that as a landlocked country, Mongolia attaches strategic importance to the development of information technology. As the President of Mongolia, he is set to pay utmost attention to this issue.

During the first state visit of the President of Mongolia to India 8 years ago, the Government of India agreed to provide a loan of USD 20 million to Mongolia. President Battulga noted that it would be important to spend this loan to the development of information technology and training specialists. The President expressed Mongolia’s interest to open a branch of the Indian Institute of Technology, one of the top universities in information technology and asked the Ambassador to convey his proposal to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. If the Government of India will support his proposal, this project will be implemented under the auspices of the President of Mongolia.

The Indian Institute of Technology is one of the world’s best universities in information technology and has over 60 thousand students.

The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi visited Mongolia in 2015, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. During this visit, the both sides agreed to open the Mongolia-India University of information technology and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia is working on this project with the Governor’s Office of the Ulaanbaatar city said Ambassador Mr. Suresh Babu. He noted that there is a wide opportunity for cooperation between the two Presidents, because the President of India serves as a Board Member of the Information Technology Council of India.
