PRESIDENT KH.BATTULGA SENDS MESSAGE FOR 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF CENTRAL GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION FOR ENVIRONMENT

President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga has sent a message for the celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Central Government Administration for Environment. Presidential Advisor on Environment, Rural and Urban Developmnet Policy and Air pollution D.Purevdavaa read out the message at the 30th Anniversary Ceremony on Friday.

The message reads, “I extend my warmest greetings to generations of workers, seniors, scholars and professionals of this sector.
Mongolians have priceless heritage of ancient traditions of worshipping and caring for the mother earth. You can see that the care and love for the nature and wildlife had been considered on policymaking level throughout the whole history of Mongolia, if you look at historic legal documents such as Ikh Zasag of Chinggis Khaan, Tsaaz of Oirat and “Khalkh Juram”, a legal document from the 16th Century. These laws set out complete regulation of hunting, earthworks and logging.

Bogdkhaan Mountain which is located in the South of Ulaanbaatar is the first national park not only of Mongolia, but of the world. Bogdkhaan Mountain, Orgontenger Mountain, Khan Khentii and Altai mountain ranges were designated as national parks in 1294, in accordance with law of the Great Yuan Empire of the Mongols.”

Environmental pollution in the city of Ulaanbaatar has reached a disastrous level, especially the smog in the city atmosphere in the wintertime is becoming ever more harmful to people’s health, noted the President.

He suggested measures can be taken, including reduction of unemployment and poverty, establishing satellite cities and new urban centers, decentralization, reduction of carbon dioxide emission, minimizing environmental impact of mining operations, introduction of mining industry, particularly for coal, copper and gold, to environmentally-friendly technologies.

The President expressed his confidence in the environmental administration staff in their ability to pass down their expertise, conserve ecological balance, protect biological diversity, coordinate their activities to scientific and technological development in the region and in the globe.
