MEETING WITH MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS
Members of the United States Congress who are visiting Mongolia paid a courtesy call on President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga today.
The President received Ted Yoho, Member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Elizabeth Esty, Member of the House of Representatives, Tom Garrett, Member of the House of Representatives, and Ruben Kihuen, Member of the House of Representatives, and discussed bilateral economic and defense cooperation and the Mongolia Third Neighbor Trade Act, which was submitted for consideration of the Congress. The sides appreciated the resolution to sign the USD 350 million Second Compact Agreement between the Government of Mongolia and the Millennium Challenge Corporation.
The Mongolia Third Neighbor Trade Act is an important bill in terms of exporting Mongolian cashmere and other textile garments to the United States duty free, increasing Mongolia-U.S. trade, and multiplying the number of Mongolian women working in cashmere and textile industries. President Battulga explained the importance of the bill for Mongolia, while emphasizing that it will open an opportunity of employment for 30-40 thousand Mongolian women.
The sides also exchanged views on ways to strengthen the development of democracy in Mongolia and diversify the economy, as well as effective cooperation in defense sector.
