PRESIDENT BATTULGA SENDS MESSAGE ON WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY

On the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, President of Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga sent a message to media workers.

THE MESSAGE READS:

“Dear journalists and workers in press and media,

I am delighted to wish you a happy World Press Freedom Day.

It is only appropriate to extend my deepest gratitude to You, the media workers who have been working in heightened preparedness along with the emergency, law enforcement and healthcare personnel and making invaluable contribution to ensuring social safety through providing reliable news coverage.

I rely on Your ability to be mindful and speculative as You communicate confirmed and reliable information to the public, while You keep in mind that the pandemic and the challenges that follow are not a field of competition.”

In this message, the President also marked his efforts in the past towards protecting media workers from being charged with criminal offense. He continued to address the situation where political authorities have different opinions on the legal statuses of professional unions of press and media as the situation has been slowing down the process of consolidating press freedom in Mongolia.

President Battulga remarked “As a citizen is represented by a political representative to the Government, the right to information is exercised through journalists. As such, I have been viewing the passage of Press Freedom Law not only as a matter of press and media, but a matter of the society”.

Concluding the message, the President once again extended greetings on the World Press Freedom Day and wished the press and media success for the great deeds of enlightening the people.
