President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa Holds Official Talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi

President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa is paying a State Visit to the Republic of India from October 13 to 16 at the invitation of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

During the visit, President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a tête-à-tête, followed by official talks. President Khurelsukh reaffirmed that India is Mongolia’s “third neighbor” and a spiritual and strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region, and expressed the commitment to deepening the Strategic Partnership and expanding bilateral cooperation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the historical significance of the visit, which coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, noting that the visit would further strengthen the friendly ties between the peoples and enhance the Strategic Partnership.

President Khurelsukh recalled Prime Minister Modi’s first official visit to Mongolia in 2015, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, which marked a new chapter in bilateral relations between Mongolia and India.

The achievements of the past 70 years were reviewed, and both sides expressed a shared commitment to deepen bilateral relations through new initiatives. Cooperation will be expanded across all sectors, with major economic projects to be jointly undertaken.

Mongolia’s long-term development policy, “Vision 2050,” will be aligned with India’s national development strategy, “Viksit Bharat 2047,” to strengthen cooperation in fields of economy, trade, agriculture, energy, minerals, green development, culture, education, and tourism.

President Khurelsukh emphasized the strategic significance of the Oil Refinery project, describing it as a symbol of bilateral cooperation and a vital contributor to Mongolia’s economic security and development. The President also expressed sincere gratitude to the Government of India for its continued support.

To promote mutually beneficial economic cooperation, both sides agreed to expand transport and logistics connectivity, including through the use of third-country ports and transport corridors.

President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa noted with confidence that charter flights by a Mongolian airline to Delhi and Amritsar will promote people-to-people exchanges and boost tourism between Mongolia and India.

The President also underscored the importance of the Mongolia-India Business Forum, held during the visit, in strengthening ties among entrepreneurs and fostering long-term trade and economic cooperation through private sector partnerships.

Prime Minister Modi announced that India will offer 70 new scholarships to Mongolian students for the 2025-2026 academic year under the Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme, in honor of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

President Khurelsukh emphasized that cooperation in education serves as a strong bridge between the two countries, praising the “India-Mongolia Friendship Secondary School” as an important institution for nurturing highly skilled future professionals.

The President also expressed confidence that the “Beautiful Country of Mongolia” concert, being held for the first time in Delhi, would strengthen mutual trust and cultural understanding. Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration in culture, the arts, and humanitarian initiatives, and promote exchanges in education, sports, and youth involvement.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in regional and international arenas, including within the framework of the United Nations and other international organizations.

As part of the visit, President Khurelsukh and Prime Minister Modi planted trees, aligning Mongolia’s “Billions of Trees” movement and India’s “One Tree for Mother” initiative, symbolizing their shared commitment to combating climate change and protecting the environment.

The talks concluded with the issuance of a Joint Statement on Strengthening the Strategic Partnership between Mongolia and the Republic of India. The talks were held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere.
